Empennage - Horizontal Stabilizer

Back to Log Index

Date: 9/7/2009
Task: Completed the right side of the HS.

Today we started on the right side of the HS. We first clecod and riveted the top side of HS-707 to the 601PP skin
. HS-708/706 was then clecod into position to form the bend radius in the skin. The bottom of HS-707 was then riveted to the skin. HS-708 was then removed and the left HS and front spar assembly was then attached to the right side. We clecod the skin to HS-702, HS-706, 708, 404, and 405. LP4-3 blind rivets were used to attach HS-707/708/702. We then riveted the skin to the front spar and ribs.

HS-707/702/708 have been riveted. HS-404/405 on the inboard edge and 706 on the outboard edge awaits.

Some of the rivets in HS-404 have been set

Riveting the skin to HS-706

Here is the inside of the left HS. The mar marks are from the bucking bar. I've taped off all the rivets so HS-702 can be sanded and reprimed. We learned our lesson and put the green painters tape down on the right side to prevent these marks. It worked very well.
