Empennage - Right Elevator

Date: 9/23/2009
Task: Riveted the skin to the skeleton, torque the counter-balance bolts and rolled the leading edges.

I started by riveting the counterbalance skin to the main skin.

After setting all the remaining rivets from skin to spar and skin to ribs, it was time to roll the leading edges. We found the control horn got in the way of the upper side so we had to cut the 3/4" galvanized water pipe into smaller sections. It should come in handy for the left elevator as well.

The outboard section took some massaging but we got it to fit together with a nice even bend.

The inboard section also had a nice clean bend from the beginning so it took little hand work to get right. That wasn't the case for the middle section which needs quite a bit of finessing.
